2-16-22 Boozhoo Families, This letter is to inform you that we received information this morning that a student was potentially in possession of a firearm while at school. Out of an abundance of caution, a lockdown was quickly initiated and tribal police were notified immediately. Tribal police made contact with the student who reportedly had the firearm and later confirmed that the student had brought a toy gun to school. The lockdown was lifted after the weapon was found to be a toy and not a credible threat. Our school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. Please discuss this incident with your child(ren) and emphasize that nobody should bring toy guns or toy weapons of any kind to school. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance, practicing emergency procedures and the school/police partnership. We are grateful for the quick response from staff and tribal police in addressing this matter.

An important reminder from Lac du Flambeau Public School: Please remember, until further notice, Lac du Flambeau Public School requires everyone to wear a face covering while inside the school building regardless of vaccination status. We can use your help in ensuring students are wearing a face covering prior to boarding the school bus or being dropped off at school each day. Lakeland Area Bus Service and the school have a limited supply of extra face coverings. We greatly appreciate your help with this important safety matter. Miigwech!
